This setting of the traditional "Alleluia" explores the multifaceted nature of praise. The piece opens a cappella with a chant-like, contemplative melody marked Cantabile e lirico. This inward reflection soon gives way to a sudden burst of joyous energy as the piano enters at a brisk tempo (♩ = 190). The choir and piano trade rhythmic, driving motifs, carrying the listener through an ecstatic and triumphant celebration before eventually returning to a space of calm and fading into a peaceful morendo. It is a thrilling journey from quiet devotion to exuberant grandiosity.
